He is not named on the Newmarket War Memorial

Born in Q2-1916 [Woolwich 1d:2356], son of Horace and Elizabeth Lilian CAMPBELL (née SMITH).



He married Gladys Margueritte BOWMAN of Newmarket in q4-1940 in Newmarket. Probate has their address as 15 King Edward VII Road, Newmarket. Perhaps they were participants at St Philip's Church, hence an Exning burial.

None have been identified in the 1939 register.


His flying training was at Kaufman County Airport, Terrell, Texas.
He had previously been flying photo reconnaisance Spitfires. In Boulton Paul Defiant Target Tug 1 (DR927) of 691 squadron, he was airborne from RAF Roborough, Devon (Now Plymouth Airport) and lost control while target towing. They crashed at 11:15 hours on December 13th 1943, near Blarrick Anthony, Cornwall. Colin was killed, as was LAC T Bartle who was in the aircraft with him.
